I've had a few changes in direction, but I think I've settled on one for good. As you might remember, I'm looking at making in the educational space.
The experts I met with all felt that digital fabrication technologies (CNC, 3D printing, vinyl cutting, etc) present a tremendous suite of opportunities for the educational space. One of the major obstacles to the adoption of this technology is that each new technology represents a significant financial, logistical and training investment. I believe that by combining multiple technologies into a single turnkey package we can significantly advance the state of digital fabrication in education.
Right now I'm looking at combining three technologies: CNC, 3D printing and vinyl cutting (knife dragging). Additionally, I'd like to provide a way for students to attach arbitrary implements to the printer - pens, paintbrushes and more - for more creative exercises.
