This past Friday we did our first research presentation on the Uganda project. Going forward specifically for my project I am going look at outlining a viable business model relating to the product I am designing/prototyping.
Since I am looking at the harvesting of groundnuts I know my next step is to buy a large bag of groundnuts and get a feel for all the different ways they can be shelled. I have a guess that the nuts may sink and the shells of the nuts may float. I am going to test this hypothesis to see if water can be a means of separating the nuts from the broken shell bits.
I am going to test simple methods of removing the nuts from their shell. Lastly I am going look into large, high capacity machines for shelling nuts and see how they work. Elements of the high capacity machines might be able to be used on a smaller scale.
The hope is through a better understanding of the shelling process I will be able to soon give some shape to my design.
This is the picture of my first senerio board depicting the problems I will be looking at.
