This week's main deliverable was the development of concept sketches.
Before I started sketching I decided to make a mind map to better understand the relationship between problems and to try and find the problems that most affected water accessibility. With the help of Navin and KADIWOD I was also able to understand some of the problems that are specific to the Kasese district.
Points from Navin's report included:
Government installed water taps are too few and usually too far away.
Water flow from taps is very limited
Water jugs are very heavy and hard to carry. These difficulties multiply for people with disabilities
Fetching water from streams can result in sickness and in skin rashes. This is due to the water being contaminated
Points from KADIWOD included:
Clean water distribution in Kasese is a around 45%
Water is usuallt purified through water guards and through the boiling of it
DIstance to water sources can be more than 100m
Very difficult for the disabled to carry water. This leads them to live with people that can support them
Rainwater tanks are scarce because they are expensive
